Councillor Sabina Akthar
I am very grateful to the residents of Stepney Green Ward and the community in Tower Hamlets for their support, and the trust they placed in me to represent them in the council.
I am proud to be the first female Bangladeshi speaker of Tower Hamlets, where I was born and brought up.
I feel privileged that I have been given this honour, and I am trying to build a bridge between the community, organisations and the council.
My priorities are to reduce ASB and create a safer neighbourhood environment, delivering support for our young people to be given opportunities, and ensuring all our education and health needs are met.
I have always raised issues concerning my local residents and taken on challenges that have been difficult at times, but continued to be a strong voice for my residents.
I am a great admirer of people who work for the community. It is important that we continue to recognise and value the contributions people make to improve our community and support those who are in need, and that is why I am so passionate to serve the people of this borough.
