Responding to the Prime Minister’s announcement, Mayor of Tower Hamlets John Biggs said:

“There were some very minor changes to the current guidance and I think the Prime Minister could have been a lot clearer on the detail of these, however I await further information that will be released today.

“In particular I am concerned that the ‘Stay Alert’ slogan is not as clear as ‘Stay at Home’ and that announcing on a Sunday evening that people should ‘Go to work if you can’t work from home’ leaves many grey areas for my residents to decide on particularly if they rely on public transport which they have been advised to avoid.

“My advice to anybody uncertain about how to go to work safely would be to talk to their employer about how they can do this safely, including travel, and of course to keep themselves, and their family, safe.”
