Commenting on the EU election results, Mayor of Tower Hamlets John Biggs said: “The European election result showed that as in the 2016 referendum our residents overwhelmingly want to remain in the EU.
“Labour came first in Tower Hamlets but this result also saw people registering their frustration with the main parties.
“I’d like to thank volunteers who canvassed to ensure the election of Claude Moraes and Seb Dance as Labour MEPs to represent London. I’d also like to thank our dedicated council staff for their hard work on the count.
“We continue to call for a second referendum to sort out the issue of Brexit. In the light of the Prime Minister’s resignation now more than ever this would be the best way to resolve the paralysis in Westminster and avoid the danger of a no deal Brexit.”
