Mayor Biggs responds to Labour Leadership result

Responding to the announcement that Sir Keir Starmer MP has been elected as Leader of the Labour Party, and Angela Rayner MP as Deputy Leader, Mayor of Tower Hamlets John Biggs said:

“We are in the midst of an unprecedented situation in our country and it’s more important than ever that we have strong, united opposition to hold the Government to account.

“Keir’s ability to bring people together and to unite different wings of the Labour Party was one of the reasons why I supported him during the leadership election, and I am delighted that he has been elected as Leader of the Labour Party. He showed during the Brexit debates that he will be a powerful voice for Labour values and alongside Angela Rayner as the new Deputy Leader, I know they will bring energy and determination.

“I look forward to working with Keir, Angela and with our two local MPs Rushanara and Apsana to ensure that Tower Hamlets continues to have a strong voice in Parliament.”|Responding to the announcement that Sir Keir Starmer MP has been elected as Leader of the Labour Party, and Angela Rayner MP as Deputy Leader, Mayor of Tower Hamlets John Biggs said:
