Public Health Report reveals differing impact of Covid-19

Commenting on today’s delayed publication of the Public Health England Review ‘Disparities in the risk and outcomes of COVID-19’, which says that people of Bangladeshi ethnicity have twice the risk of death than people of white British ethnicity, Mayor of Tower Hamlets John Biggs said:

“The government has finally published its report into the impact of COVID-19 on different groups, which presents some stark findings confirming what we knew that our BAME and poorer communities are more likely to be disproportionately impacted.

“In Tower Hamlets we have a large Bangladeshi community and this report highlights that nationally people of Bangladeshi ethnicity have twice the risk of death than people of white ethnicity as a result of COVID-19, which is truly shocking.

“What this report does not do is give any recommendations on how to address these findings. This is an issue which I will continue to press government for answers on as it impacts on my residents and community and so it’s very personal to me. The government has the data, what we now need is urgent action. It’s quite simply a matter of life or death.”|Commenting on today’s delayed publication of the Public Health England Review ‘Disparities in the risk and outcomes of COVID-19’, which says that people of Bangladeshi ethnicity have twice the risk of death than people of white British ethnicity, Mayor of Tower Hamlets John Biggs said:
